HIRING THE RIGHT PH OR GUIDE IS A MUST

CAPT.SHAWN’S AFRICAN ADVENTURE PART 2

We arrived in Lusaka without a hitch; the temperature was just like South Florida, nice and sunny.  After we cleared customs we walked out to the parking lot where our PH had his trucks and men. Abie DuPlooy was a native to Zambia he looked like he was in his mid 60’s, a large scruffy character with weathered skin.  Abie has been a Professional Hunter for over 30 years you could tell just by looking at him he carried a wealth of experience and knowledge.

First stop, the local market. As we pulled up I noticed this was not just any market, it was the gathering place, a place to visit with people and to get caught up with old friends. As I walked through the store picking up a few bottles of wine for dinner I was intrigued by all the different stuff they had.  I made my way to the checkout line, when I saw, our PH paying for our food for the week, 20 cases of beer and some potatoes; this was the beginning of an interesting Adventure.

After about a three hour truck ride (That means 8 beers later) we finally pulled up to the ranch. The ranch had a nice piece of land with some hardwoods on a hill and many acres for cattle. The house reminded me of one of the old camps I see in the Everglades when I am out on my tours, it was rustic with a section of it that looked like it had collapsed a few times and then propped up with some two by fours.  After we unpacked our bags we sat around the camp fire drinking beer and telling stories about the one that got away, a ritual that most men do to ease the excitement of the adventure to come.

Part 3 comming soon
